Historic Fort Stockton
Fort Stockton, TX

The Historic Fort in Fort Stockton, Texas has been around in various forms since established by the United States military in 1858.  That military presence was withdrawn in 1861 during the civil war as the confederate army then occupied the first post (known as Camp Stockton) for a time.
The Fort now has a museum (housed in Barracks #1 & #2) in which it's rich history is on display.  Such as the "Buffalo Soldiers," which was the name given to African American Soldiers (by Native Americans) who were serving in the United States Armey in the 19th century.   The historic grounds contain Officer's Row, Guard House, Enlisted Men's Barracks, and the Parade Grounds.
