The Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank-Off
McKinney, TX

One of the best ways to beat the summer heat is with a big bowl of homemade ice cream.  Even though it's a Texas tradition and a summer survival necessity, homemade ice cream has become scarce in most areas.  However, in McKinney they celebrate the creamy confection every August during the Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank-Off.  As the story goes, originally the people of McKinney had a chili cook-off.
However soon it was suggestion by McKinney resident Killis Melton that ice cream would be a better for for summer and the rest is history.

Ice Cream "Crankers" compete in an informal competition and at the end everyone gets free ice cream.  What could be better than that?
