North Texas Explorer
In the Media

After the tour of Dinosaur Valley, the two traveled to Granbury. Dennie commented on local legends and the tourist attractions nearby. A shot of the Hood County Courthouse opened the scene. Dennie informed the viewer of a local legend that claims John Wilkes Booth, the actor who assassinated president Abraham Lincoln, escaped an angry mob and lived the rest of his life hiding in Granbury, making his living as a blacksmith.

Dennie uses his 1993 Ford Explorer for transportation to the locations, hence the title, "North Texas Explorer." Kent made use of the time spent traveling by filming Dennie driving to and commenting on the next destination.

The show was edited on Wednesday with the help of the Media 100 system, located at NTTV studios on the fourth level of the General Academic Building. Kent used the machine to focus on preferable camera angles, filter background noise and add graphics to aid in Dennie's presentation. The Media 100 allows Kent to manipulate any image or sound from any point along the tape with the click of a mouse.  The format of the show is open to change. The producers would prefer it to continue as a commentary of the diverse geological features of North Texas, it's history, and wildlife. Also, the duo would like to stop along the way at various towns to record the local human life, much like Bob Phillip's "8 Country Reporter," on WFAA-Channel 8, which documents Texas small towns, local history, and various artisans.

"We're still tweaking with the format. But we're having fun," Kent said. Dennie and Kent are willing to distribute the show to any station that would like to air it. Kent and Dennie are considering producing a special version of the show for educational purposes, intended for elementary school children. "We would like to branch out as much as possible and as soon as possible," Kent said.

Future episodes of North Texas Explorer will take place at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, The Botanical Gardens and other areas of interest in the North Texas region and southern Oklahoma. Dennie and Kent are currently interviewing NT and TCU geology students for the position of co-host.
